18 April, 2026Inaugural Conference of the DFTS Teacher’s Association ‘Creative Craft in Action | Collaboration in Drama, Film and Theatre Studies’
The association held the first teacher conference for Drama, Film and Theatre Studies taking place on 18th April 2026 in Dublin. The theme of ‘Creative Craft in Action | Collaboration in Drama, Film and Theatre Studies’, focused on interactive, hands-on practical elements of filmmaking, lighting and sound and acting for stage and screen. 21 January, 2026Live AAC Brief: Creativity in Practice Project 2027
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) publish the first live brief for the Drama, Film and Theatre Studies AAC. This Creativity in Practice Project is worth 50% of the overall marks for Leaving Certificate. The topic for the 2026-2027 project is ‘The Use of Colour in Theatre and Film’.
24th November 2025Introductory DFTS Webinar
The DFTS Teachers’ Association holds their first webinar for all those interested and currently teaching Drama, Film and Theatre Studies. Lightbulb moments - small nugget ideas for teaching and learning - were shared by colleagues from around the country.
December 2024Guidelines to support the AAC Creativity in Practice Project
NCCA publish details of the nature and scope of the Creativity in Practice Project providing:
- guidance for schools, teachers and students,
- information on the role of schools and teachers
- descriptors of quality for the Creativity in Practice Project.
16 September 2024Phase One Schools for Drama, Film and Theatre Studies
The Department of Education and Youth (DEY) select 57 post-primary schools to introduce the new Leaving Certificate subject, Drama, Film and Theatre Studies from the start of the 2025/2026 school year.
